Once the TEKS are divided, the local coordinator breaks the TEKS grade
level into smaller sections, and assigns each section to a team consisting
of a classroom teacher and a librarian. The team generates concept
words for the TEKS content, such as water, condensation, rain, etc.
for a section of the 2nd grade science TEKS.
The concept words then go to a professional cataloger. Library of
Congress subject headings (the TLC standard) are given to each concept word,
and the subject heading list is sent back to the teacher/librarian team.
After the team verifies the subject heading list (striking any terms that
they feel are inappropriate), the list is returned to the local coordinator.
The local coordinator sends the subject lists and team member names to
the Project Coordinator, who then aligns the subject headings by the matrixed skills. The
Project Coordinator checks that subject headings
are used uniformly across grade levels for skills that encompass more than
one grade.
The last step is that the Project Coordinator sends the completed subject headings
to the Project Directors. Authority overlay records are then created
for the subject headings with 450's or 490's (depending on your automation
system) containing TEKS information.
TEKSLink authority overlay records will be available soon. Please check the downloads page for updates.
