Program Overview

Richardson Library Media Services Book Review Program

The book review program was implemented in 2000 to provide librarians with current books to review for addition to the collection.  All administrators, parents, teachers, and librarians are invited to participate and review materials on a monthly basis.

Review materials are accepted into the collection according to district guidelines at no cost to the library program.

The program has been going strong for many years.  During the 2007-2008 school year, over 40 major publishers participated by sending current fiction and nonfiction books for review.  Over 1,600 books were reviewed by more than 300 reviewers from 36 RISD schools.

Join the ranks of the 2007-2008 top reviewing schools!

Elementary

Prestonwood – 184 books reviewed.

Brentfield – 103 books reviewed.

Jess Harben – 101 books reviewed.

Secondary

Liberty – 70 books reviewed.

 Apollo – 51 books reviewed.

West – 41 books reviewed.

What are the benefits of reviewing the most books?

bullet

·         The reviewed books are added to the school’s collection.  All review books are new publications!

bullet

·         The school reviewing the most receives additional funding for purchasing books.

bullet

·         The prestige of saying your school was in the top three!

 How the program works:

bullet

·         Guest reviewers (teachers, administrators, and parents) are asked to fill out a Guest Reviewer Profile at the beginning of each year and return it to their building librarian.  Books will be sent based on their requests.

bullet

·         Librarians may select their own review books from the RISD Professional Library or books will be selected monthly for each school’s guest reviewers.

bullet

·         Guest reviewers who would like to select their own titles may do so from the RISD Professional Library during hours of operation.

bullet

·         Titles receiving favorable reviews from reviewers and meeting district guidelines will be processed and placed in their building’s library collection at no cost.

bullet

·         Titles that do not receive favorable reviews will be returned, with the reviews, to the RISD Professional Library for proper placement according to the district guidelines.

bullet

·         All reviews are sent to the publisher.  Publishers do read the reviews and are interested in all comments.

Please direct questions to your school's librarian or Ann Coley, 469.593.0740.
