Curriculum Philosophy

Library Mission Statement

Mission:

The mission of the RISD Library Media Services program is to teach information literacy in collaboration with classroom teachers within the context of the content curriculum, to inspire and develop a love of reading, and to provide diverse materials and services, enabling students to become life-long learners.

Library Media Center Philosophy

Philosophy:

Teacher-librarians collaborate with classroom teachers to develop units of study designed to meet both content and information literacy TEKS. RISD libraries operate on a flexible schedule to facilitate the learning and teaching of information skills in the context of the information need, i.e., the curriculum. RISD libraries promote a love of reading by ensuring that every student is able to freely choose age-appropriate materials of interest in their campus library.

The campus library is open to all students throughout the instructional day for information literacy instruction, free reading materials, and pursuit of individual interests for both students and faculty.
