Background:

What does AVID stand for:  Advancement Via Individual Determination

In an effort to pursue our goal of excellence in junior high and high school and to work towards acceptance into the college or university of one's choice, AVID students will research study skills that, when used, will help students be successful in school and in life. As Mrs. Schottleander, our AVID Coordinator at Liberty Junior High says, "AVID students are easily identifiable. They should have their AVID binders with them DAILY!  They will be role models during class.  They will use WICR strategies in their lessons.  (This includes taking Cornell Notes regularly, completing learning logs, and demonstrating higher level thinking activities such as Socratic Seminars.)  They will attend tutoring sessions.  They will also be involved in extra-curricular activities. Finally, they will complete community service hours through a variety of activities, including mentoring our Forestridge book buddies and helping around the school and classroom.

Remember the importance of success now. This will lead to continued success in high school, college, and careers. Success can be obtained by using the strategies we will study in this unit.
