Background:Wikipedia
states, "The Constitution of the United
States of America is the supreme law of the United
States. It is the foundation and source of the legal
authority underlying the existence of the United
States of America and the Federal Government of the United
States. It provides the framework for the organization of
the United States Government."
Our forefathers desired to
create a "more perfect union." Having recently fought a revolutionary war to
gain independence from Great Britain, they set out to write a Constitution
that would set up a democracy designed to last through the ages. In this
Constitution, the writers established their reasons for writing the
constitution in the preamble, the three branches of government, the initial
thirteen states, articles regarding debts, supremacy and oaths, and
the amendments (arguably the most famous and most important of which
are the first ten known as the Bill of Rights).
In this study, we will come to
understand the Constitution more completely and begin to comprehend its
impact on our daily lives. Hopefully, we will gain an appreciation for the
wisdom and the foresightedness of these men, as they so eloquently drafted
and ratified this long-reaching document.
