Program Overview

The mission of the RISD Library Media Services program is to teach information literacy in collaboration with classroom teachers within the context of the content curriculum, inspire and develop a love of reading, and provide diverse materials and services to enable students to become life-long learners and effective users of information.

The Library Media Services Program serves:

Approximately 35,000 students

59 professional and 23 paraprofessional staff

56 library media centers

Library Media Services is responsible for the Book Review Program, Author Program, the union catalog, and access to national, state, and district network resources.

Central service support includes:

	Curriculum writing and staff development
	Campus library media center web pages
	Policies and procedures
	Training in the use of the library automation system, new technology hardware and software, and research methods
	Monthly library meetings
	Acquisition and evaluation of new print and electronic instructional resources.

Additional support is provided from the Library Technical Services (Acquisitions, Cataloging, and Processing), the Research and Preview Library, Teacher Production Center, and the Dallas County Library Media Center.
