Information Need

Students need to be aware of the originating documents of our country.  The observance of Constitution Day opens up a forum to discuss the founding documents and their relevance in today's society.

Kindergarten -

113.2 b8  Government. The student understands the purpose of rules. The student is expected to:

(A)  identify purposes for having rules; and

(B)  identify rules that provide order, security, and safety in the home and school.

 

Grade 1 -

113.3 b10 Government. The student understands the purpose of rules and laws. The student is expected to:

(A)  explain the need for rules and laws in the home, school, and community; and

(B)  give examples of rules or laws that establish order, provide security, and manage conflict.

Grade 2 -

Grade 4 -

113.6 b16  Government. The student understands important ideas in historic documents of Texas. The student is expected to:

(A)  identify the purposes and explain the importance of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the Texas Constitution, and the Treaty of Velasco

 

Grade 5 -

113.7 b16B  explain the purposes of the U.S. Constitution as identified in the Preamble to the Constitution.

113.7 b17  Government. The student understands the framework of government created by the U.S. Constitution . . .

113.7 b21  Citizenship. The student understands the fundamental rights of American citizens guaranteed in the Bill of Rights and other amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The student is expected to:

(B)  describe important individual rights including freedom of religion, speech, and press and the right to assemble and petition the government;

(C)  describe important due process rights including trial by jury and the right to an attorney; and

(D)  summarize selected amendments to the U.S. Constitution such as those that extended voting rights of U.S. citizens.

 

Grade 6 -

113.22 b11  Government. The student understands the concepts of limited governments, such as constitutional and democratic governments, and unlimited governments, such as totalitarian and nondemocratic governments.
