Meet Your Librarian:
Doug Valentine is your Librarian. He holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the
University of Tulsa and a Master of Library and Information Science
from the University of Oklahoma. He was recently named as one of
five elementary STAR teachers for RISD. Originally from Oklahoma, Mr. Valentine is now a
proud member of Skyview Elementary.

| The Skyview library has three basic rules:
1) Take care of your books
2) Take care of yourself
3) Take care of others
We believe all other rules fall under one of these three.
Skyview provides both a fixed and a flexible schedule for classes that
allows teachers to participate in their student's library experience.
Classes come each week at a scheduled time, but there is free time for
scheduling special class projects as well. Students check out
books every other week but they may come and trade books at any time.
The second week is spent on literature based lessons that tie in
directly with classroom instruction. In this way student learning is
reinforced outside of the classroom setting. The library also provides
a number of exciting activities throughout the year such as math
carnival, book fairs, the Halloween spectacular, and visits from
"video friends." Incentives such as "Star class of the week" and "Hot
dog of the day" recognize students for their outstanding behavior.
