TASK 1: What is
the difference between something real and a story?
TASK 2:
What are the basic needs of the living things in the Gregor story? How
do they find them in their habitat? How can we understand their real
size?
Lesson Plan:
Day 1: Look through the first book, "Gregor the Overlander" and identify
the creatures the author describes. The students should take special care to
note the descriptions and size of the animals.
Day 2 & 3: Use the library resources
below to find the
actual size of the creature and their food. Write down how much each animal
eats. Estimate how much bigger the creature is in the books and estimate how
much a creature that size would have to eat. Use butcher paper to show the
size of an Underworld bat, rat, cockroach and spider. Mark the actual size
of the animal also.
Try out your skills at echolocation.
Practice making a clicking noise with your tongue then go into the hallway.
Close your eyes, click your tongue and see if you can tell how close you are
to the wall.
