Library Hours

Monday-Friday 7:30 am - 4:00 pm

 

*These times are subject to change due to meetings, testing, presentations, etc.

 

Don't forget to have a pass in the mornings, during school, and at lunch to enter the library.  After school, no pass is needed. 

Checking Out Books

 

Books are checked out from the library for two weeks at a time. 

Reference materials are checked out for overnight only.

Students must have their student ID cards to check out materials.

If you need a new ID card, because you have lost it, stop by the library.  The replacement cost is $5.00.

*Beware, if you turn in your checked out materials late, there is a $.10 fine for each day it is late.  Reference materials are $.25 a day if late.

Computer Usage

 

Each student has a unique account he may log-on to.  Along with the log-on is a student created password. 

If you have issues with your computer account or have forgotten your password, stop by the library for assistance.

All students must have an AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) form signed by a parent and on file with the school.  If you have any questions, please contact the library staff. 

If a student wishes to print, it costs $.10 a page;  color printing is $.25 a page.  If a teacher accompanies a student to print for an assignment, there is no printing charge for black and white. 

Types of Materials Available in the Library

Fiction

Nonfactual stories in many genres.  Call number begins with FIC.
Nonfiction Materials on specific subjects broken down by Dewey Decimal numbers.  Call number begins with numbers.
Reference Reference falls in the nonfiction category.  Specific subjects can be researched using reference materials.  Call number begins with REF.
Biography Books about the lives of people.  Call number begins with B.
Story Collection Books containing more than one story, usually short stories.  Call number begins with SC. 
Graphic Novels Graphic novels are similar to comic books, they have the same format.  Call number begins with GN.
College & Career Books specific to career information and types of colleges.  Call number begins with CC.
Magazines Magazines are available for browsing and recreational reading.  Magazines may not be checked out of the library.

Online Resources are paid for by RISD.  They offer expert information to students doing research.  Click the button to the left titled "Online Resources" to get to the page.

A few resources are highlighted below.

eLibrary This is a great source for searching magazine articles.
Kudercom This resource includes information regarding careers.  It allows students to build online career portfolios and take research based assessments designed to discover their interests, skills, and work values and how those characteristics relate to the world of work.
netTrekker This resource acts as an expert search engine.  Valid internet sites can be found using this resource.
GALE Language Arts searching is made easy with this resource.  Excellent biographical information can be found here too.
ABC CLIO Excellent for social studies research.
Maps 101 Includes a variety of online maps, from outline maps to historical maps and even interactive maps.  Also features classroom resources and a weekly “Geography in the News” feature.
